Boarding Pass

I didn’t book the trip to Mars. The mind calendars

a lot these days. The mind went

(I want to say) to outer space

but to be more accurate

it was 140 million miles away.

I miscalculated the launch

by 2 hours, 47 minutes.

Seems like no one wants you to go.

Not even on a silicone microchip

aboard NASA’s InSight lander.

I read that Mars offers, among other attractions:

cocktails with the god of war

permission to roam gulleys, galleys and alleys, volcanoes

to discover things we the people

of Earth won’t or can’t yet fathom.

That’s why I fully intended to send you

where you wanted to go

But as mentioned, the mind

was a ways away.
