aphrodite tells her friend about adonis

the night had balloons. the scones were strawberry. or rosemary. he did the things he does and I shook. he did nothing and I fell flat on the cement. the birds walked around and didn’t fly. no one and no one and no one would take me where I said I wanted to go because I didn’t want to go. times like this, stay at the party. times like this, strum with the thumb. why do we tumble backwards when we want to stand still? somebody’s lying. both of us. if I suggest a direction, the whole thing might be over. I suggest a direction.
